Life for teenagers is hard and full of many challenges. Moreover, teens have yet to develop mature coping mechanisms necessary to handling everyday challenges. This makes emotional difficulties in the teen years commonplace. Teenagers often find themselves feeling depressed or unable to cope with the pressures of school. Worse, teens can sometimes react to these pressures in unhealthy ways. Teen counseling can help teenagers develop important coping skills and acceptable behavior. It also allows parents to recognize warning signals that may indicate more serious challenges ahead. Some of the more common issues facing teens today include life-altering changes such as divorce, a death of a friend or family member, family or personal illness, relocation, substance abuse, bullying, physical or sexual abuse and teen pregnancy.
