Marriage counseling, or couple's counseling as it is sometimes called, is a form of couple’s psychotherapy aimed at identifying and resolving conflicts. The ultimate goal of couples therapy is to aid two people in developing the skills that are necessary to reconcile and rebuild relationships whenever possible. Very often couples therapy can result in a renewed commitment to each other and an improved life together. However, in cases where one party is unwilling to work toward reconciliation, or in instances of physical or mental abuse, the best outcome may be for the couple to live apart indefinitely. Licensed professional counselors are equipped to help you make that determination and will work closely with you and your partner to identify and achieve what is best for both of you.
